The BMW S54 engine is very susceptible to vibration, especially when revved highly for extended periods of time. The factory vibration damper does a great job to minimize the amount of vibrations transferred to the crankshaft to keep it in line and running smooth.

Over time however the factory damper and degrade and eventually fail which makes it a very important maintenance item to keep your eyes on. This is especially true for those engines that are used in race cars or on cars that are tracked heavily.

This is a Genuine BMW Vibration damper.
